My Deadbeat Great Grandson, Michie Boy PDF Print E-mail

Dear Mitzi:

There is a problem with my Michie, TN Great-Grandson.

To my knowledge he has never been gainfully employed, nor has he ever sought employment. There are plenty of jobs in the Michie area. He seems to be perfectly content to let his hardworking Mother and his equally hardworking Grandmother make the living. If he is not inclined to seek employment, he should help out around the house but he doesn't. He is an intelligent person and a quick learner, but unmotivated. This was not the nature of his Mother or

grandmother, from early childhood on they were up their ears in whatever endeavor my wife and I were engaged in. Would you recommend that he see a motivation councelor, cut his allowance, take away his auto priviledge (he seldom drives anyway), or just let it slide? Don't recommend chastisement, it goes in one ear and out the other.

Dear Perplexed,
You have failed to tell me how old your great grandson is. I think that every one should pull their own weight within the family. With children, I feel that a part time job is very rewarding and can benefit a high school student. It's important that they don't over work themselves so it could harm their school grades.
I also agree that every person should help with family chore responsibilities. This gives the child the experience needed to progress through their adult years. i hope this helped.
Mitzy

PS....I have just found out that your great grandson is just going on three years of age. You might want to give him a few years before you expect him to file at year end with the IRS. I do agree though that going in one ear and out the other is normal at that age.
